Employees Get It

I hear this frequently about employees. A manager will tell me that an employee “has” to leave Chugachmiut for various reasons that are beyond their control. A spouse moves, a parent needs a caretaker,… Then they will tell me a story like the one I heard on Friday. This employee loves Lean management, and wants to take it with them. They want to teach others about Lean. In this case, the employee wanted to know if it was alright to take the tools they learned with them. Of course they can. Value mapping and standard work make every program at Chugachmiut work well. With standard work, you never have to worry about how to do something-it’s been thought through already. And this employee wanted to know if Lean tools would work with family issues. I had to answer that it does. Getting a kid ready for school is a process that can be mapped and put on a process control board. Expectations are made clear, and the pathway to being ready is laid out for the kid. How do I know this? One of my employees did it with her daughter and grandson.
