The Grand Vision and Engaging Employees

I am currently reading “The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs: Insanely Different Principles for Breakthrough Success” by Carmine Gallo. While I am far from being Steve Jobs, I still have a grand vision for the customers we serve at Chugachmiut. I want us to be ‘Happy, healthy people, well trained, well educated, able to survive anywhere in the world, but wanting to live here.” This vision has led to our “Restoration to Health” strategy, which I have discussed earlier in a blog.

Gallo cites seven principles of innovation, as follows:

  1. Do What You Love.
Think differently about your career.
  2. Put a Dent in the Universe.
Think differently about your vision.
  3. Kick Start Your Brain.
Think differently about how you think.
  4. Sell Dreams, Not Products.
Think differently about your customers.
  5. Say No to 1,000 Things.
Think differently about design.
  6. Create Insanely Great Experiences.
Think differently about your brand experience.
  7. Master the Message.
Think differently about your story.”

With my board, executive team and employees, we are selling the dream, which is principle Number 3. We want our rural Native villages to thrive; our tribal members to be happy, healthy and successful; living within a vibrant, dynamic culture; and having an outstanding place for our children to grow and thrive. We live and work in our homeland. While we do not totally own it any more, we have the ability to shape our destiny. With such a dream, we will find a way to make it work. And we will have hundreds of people, Chugachmiut employees, Tribal Governments and our tribal members all working togehter to make it happen.
