Grow People

Mark Siwik is an amazing talent, working hard on a goal of “improving the science of teaching youth through sport and to advancing the use of this science by present and future generation.” With Swen Nater, Mark is pioneering the use of Training Within Industry to teach sport. Mark and Swen gave a presentation to the TWI Conference in Orlando, FL earlier this year. During his presentation, Mark quoted the following Chinese Proverb, which I absolutely love. Here it is.

If you want one year of prosperity, grow grain.

If you want ten years of prosperity, grow trees.

If you want one hundred years of prosperity, grow people.

Chinese Proverb

One of my employees tells me constantly “You have given us the tools to achieve and grow.” Mark and Swen, through their organization “Be Like Coach” are attempting to give sports leaders the tools to achieve and grow. Based on the leadership skills honed by John Wooden, Be Like Coach is using TWI to help expand opportunity for youth to learn, compete and succeed.” Visit the website to see all of the good work they are doing.
